The month of May is dedicated to Mary. It is the month when Spring begins and the earth blooms. In Ancient Greece, May was dedicated to the goddess of fertility, Artemis and in Ancient Roman culture, May was dedicated to Flora, the goddess of blooms. The ancient traditions celebrating May as a time of new life and fertility, provided a connection to motherhood which led Christians to adopt the month of May as a time to celebrate our mother, Mary.
During May in school, our prayer and liturgy within classes and phases will focus on Mary and our prayer areas are dedicated to her. The Mini Vinnies are visiting all classes leading them in praying a decade of the rosary; we have been finding out about and learning the different Marian prayers and in KS2 we have been meditating on Mary as we pray a Visio Divina.
