The children have been looking at Rosa Parks and how she was judged based on her ‘front cover’. They wanted to see where she was from so we looked at the world, discovered the different continents and focused on North and South America (we came across where the Mayans were from in South America and looked at them too). We also looked at the differences in America and the UK.
After the children went to the library and discussed the cover of books, they focused on books which had significant people on them such as Rosa Parks, Jesus, Mayans and Greta Thunberg. They also thought of other significant figures who had been judged based on their ‘front cover’ (you can see them on the featured image of this blog post). The children created posters and found out more about the significant figures. We discussed whether judgement is always bad or can it be good?
They will be writing diary entries as Rosa Parks next, finding out more about the Mayans, stitching a puppet of a significant figure they wanted to study further and creating music and poetry to retell their stories so watch this space..
