As part of LKS2’s project this term ‘How has technology changed over the last 200 years?’, the children are learning about electricity.
The children will learn about what electricity is and how it was discovered. They will identify appliances that use electricity in their homes and how to keep themselves safe around electricity.
Children will construct circuits, start to create pictorial circuits and conduct an investigation into how easily different types of switches can break and reconnect a circuit.
They will discuss what the importance of electricity is. They will be looking at how electricity changed the lives of the Victorians and revisit Thomas Edison. They will link this part of the project to their driving question. We are hopeful that they will see that the invention of electricity made huge changes in daily life for almost everybody, although there are still some places in the world that do not use electricity at all. Electricity powers all manner of things that we use every day, like computers, lights, televisions or the laptop you may be using right now. By understanding electricity, the children will also learn about the potential dangers to help encourage safe practice. We will also discuss the importance of electricity and how it impacted us during lockdown.
